During the Edo period, many political prisoners were exiled to Hachijojima.
They were loved and cherished by the people of the island, and were able to live a life of luxury, with both their hearts and time slowly drifting away.
The authentic shochu Shimanagashi was born in memory of the many people who returned to their home countries after serving their sentences and lived happy lives.
